The Property
There are hotels that sit in Bhutan. And then there is Zhiwaling Heritage, a property that is Bhutan, from the foundations up. Built by Bhutanese hands, owned by Bhutanese enterprise, and staffed by Bhutanese people, this is the only 5-star hotel in the kingdom that is 100% locally owned and operated. Certified as a Unique Lodge by National Geographic and set across 10 acres of blue pine forest in the Paro Valley, Zhiwaling Heritage is where authentic meets extraordinary. Hidden Lotus is proud to present this singular address.
The Soul of Bhutan, Under One Roof
Nestled beside a blue pine forest in the quiet Satsam Chorten area of Paro, just minutes from the Tiger's Nest trailhead and a short drive from Paro International Airport, Zhiwaling Heritage is a ten-acre sanctuary of handcrafted Bhutanese architecture, Swedish underfloor heating, and some of the most considered hospitality in the kingdom.
Every hand-carved cornice, every hand-knotted rug, every hand-woven bedcover was made by a local Bhutanese artisan. A hotel that doesn't interpret Bhutan for you, it simply is Bhutan.

A Sacred Detail
A Temple Built From 450-Year-Old Timbers
On the upper floor of the main building, Zhiwaling Heritage houses its own private temple, constructed from reclaimed timbers from the famous Gangtey Monastery, some over 450 years old. Guests are welcomed here for guided meditation sessions, with direct views of Tiger's Nest Monastery across the valley. There is no other hotel in Bhutan with anything quite like it.

At the Table
Dining
Zhiwaling Heritage's culinary offering is anchored by a single kitchen serving multiple dining rooms, each with its own mood and character. Many dishes are prepared from seasonal vegetables harvested straight from the hotel's own gardens, with an Irish head chef Ailish Hennessy, bringing a fresh international perspective to deeply Bhutanese ingredients.

Gawa RestaurantTraditional BhutaneseThe heart of Zhiwaling's culinary story. Gawa means "happiness" in Dzongkha and this restaurant earns the name. Traditional Bhutanese dishes prepared with seasonal produce from the hotel's own gardens: ema datshi, buckwheat pancakes, and locally brewed butter tea presented with the care and precision of a fine dining kitchen. |

Linka RestaurantInternational CuisineFor mornings when you want eggs benedict as much as butter tea, and evenings when the day calls for something familiar. Linka serves international cuisine from freshly baked pastries to Western classics, all prepared with local ingredients and a distinctly Bhutanese lightness of touch. |
